George Ranch in Richmond, TX

Our lengthy stay in Texas gave us the opportunity to seek treasures off the beaten path of the Interstate.  South of Sugar Land, one of our favorite towns in South Texas, is the George Ranch Historical Park.  The 23,000 acre working ranch is fascinating with four separate sites that have been authentically maintained as the family lived.  The 1890's Victorian Mansion has been moved from down the road a piece for the sake of touring the historical homesites. The ranch was affected by the hurricanes so the furniture is a mix of the original and replacements from the period. You antique lovers will appreciate the progression of the style and craftsmanship.

They showed us a good time too, demonstrating how they branded and "dipped" the cattle and offering roping instruction. Dale nailed it as if he'd been a cowboy in another life and I missed every time.

The ranch today is a non-profit historical park and a philanthropic organization giving millions to local causes and scholarships.
